Introducing Technomania!
The second group project from PlaygroundSquad.
Technomania is a first person looter shooter developed in Unreal Engine for the Playstation 5, made by 18 students in 9 weeks.
Information displayed clearly to the player using color,symbols and simple hud elements.
HUD formed around the idea that of the player being a "Robot". With a curved screen effect that distorts Everything on the the top and bottom of the HUD.
Effects with the help of Krister Holmgren was developed to give an Intense feel to the gameplay.
Such effects such as a artifical screen tearing/ glitch effect and global chromatic abberation upon taking damage, or the CRT monitor effect for the screens.
Compass used flat image across the screen that looped around the top and used the positions for the enemies to offset markers onto the flat compass image.
Playstation 5 support was a inital design requirement, thus the UI for both the HUD and Main Menu was designed around the need for console support.
Controller support for the menus used a series of "nested" lists and used indexes to indicate what element was being highlighted.
