Introducing Technomania!
The second group project from PlaygroundSquad.
Technomania is a first person looter shooter developed in Unreal Engine for the Playstation 5, made by 18 students in 9 weeks.

The core idea around Technomania was to make a feeling of being this immense robot that is going form one target to another.
I was responsible for the UI and its accompanying effects, this encompassed mostly the hud and Main.
The idea for the hud was to first of make it feel like you are not organic or "human" but to instead feel like you are looking through a camera lens attached to this rogue robot. Clear and simple was the order for the hud to make it easy to understand everything about the player while in an "active" environment. Using simple effects from Krister Holmgren, in the likes of chromatic aberration, fake screen glitching, tearing or warped vision when damaged, sold the illusion quite well.

Due to the console support being necessary in due to the project needing to be supported on the Playstation 5 Everything UI related had to be supported by controllers, Using the Main Menu screen as a root I designed the system around a series of lists. This arrays or "lists" kept track of what buttons were on screen at an present moment and what menu was preceding and what was following.

Due design kept fairly simple with sharp corners and two base colours, those being black and red. Some animation was added to lessen the static feel of the menu.
We added images that rotated on to the screen as if they were cctv cameras inside the facility, reminiscent of Portal 2's menu. We also added some fake code and files being loading, both for a bit of movement on the screen but also as a little vehicle for "easter eggs".
